What is Gacha?

The term “gacha” is refer to a variety of capsule toys machine popular in Japan. It is a mechanic that generally refer to a blind box sets. Gacha is then adapted digitally and become one of the most popular systems for f2p (free-to-play) video games. Many games have gacha mechanic implemeted, with banner that randomly generated items of different market values can be acquired through microtransactions. It is a monetosation system that let a company maximize their profits.
Gacha = Gamble ?
We can know that gamble means using moneys or something similar values on an event for an uncertain outcomes. While for gacha, players can obtain numerous in-game characters, cards or items through pull / spin the gacha using a specific amount of in-game currency. Some rare items require players to spin more before they get their desired outcomes and in order to spin more, they have to pay more. The mechanism has come under scrutiny as it is similar to gamble. A lot of makers made the game to get players addicted and hooked on playing them (players want to collect complete set or becoming more powerful). The gacha system made people just can’t stop paying money until they get what they desired. This is why the mechanic is subject to criticism in luring people to spend thousands of money.

Why People Love Gacha ?
What makes gacha interesting is the element of gamble. You are putting effort and money for a chance to get something great. The most important thing is, “Luck”. Although sometimes people can get their desired things by buying directly, the cost will be a lot higher than simply pull the gacha banner and pray for RNGesus. Nowadays, lawmaker are requiring gacha games to show exactly the percent chance behind their gacha system and made it public. However, the developers can still make changes and this also doesn’t prove that the probabilities showed will be true. So, people who love to play gacha games will keep playing the games and also purchase in-game currency in order to pull gacha thanks to the hook of trying to get lucky. Some people also think that the game is fun, so i should pay them as this is how the developers make money and improve their games. For the in-game currency i purchased, maybe i can get something rare and it will become a win-win solution.

As for me, I love playing gacha games such as Tower of Savior and Honkai Imapact 3 as those games have some nice and beautiful character. For FGO, now i am just login dailies after a whole months of grinding and what i get are trash (the probability is hell). I am enjoying playing them because of their playstyle and also the gacha (gamble) element within them. You will just want to keep grinding the in-game currency and then go to pull the banner to test your luck. When you get it, the happiness you felt is rediculous and you can show off to your friend when they can’t get XD. I also love to watch my friend playing same gacha games with me and pull the banner together. However, if you can’t get it, it just make you want to pull more and think that the next pull will surely get (it ends up become a loop). Thus, people that love to play gacha games should know how to control themselves (when to stop) and also have good planning on which banner they should give up. Lets experience the gacha hell together !
